2014 Commit - Bo Scarbrough

After the Reuben Foster decommit I try not to get too worked up over verbal commitments from 16 and 17 year olds. In my opinion, some of these kids are enjoying the attention a little too much and love the extra attention a big splash like flipping a commitment can bring.

This is a rare exception, though. This is five-star running back Bo Scarbrough. He is a junior at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa. Take a look at some of this kid's game film, then we'll talk:

Several things are evident from that video.

  • This kid is versatile. He appears to have a really good pair of hands and should be an excellent receiver, either out of the backfield, or lining up as a slot receiver. He could also play a role on special teams, in the return game.
  • He has great size, especially for the Bama run game. As a high school junior he is already 6'2" and 218 lbs. Once he gets in the weight room with (strength and conditioning) Coach Cochran he will be an impressive back, indeed. He will fit right in with Alabama's bruising, physical run game.
  • Speed, speed, speed. Just look at the film. He has that acceleration to get him through the hole, or past tacklers once he breaks into the secondary. Once he turns upfield and throws it into high gear, he is hard to catch.
  • Location. Personally, I like the fact that he is from Tuscaloosa. In fact, it is one of the reasons I am allowing myself to get excited about his commitment. It is hard enough to steal a recruit away from Coach to begin with, and this one is right under his nose. I am hoping this commitment is safe.
